Christmas Night With The Stars

Christmas Night With The Stars 1958 – 1972

The variety television show broadcast each Christmas Night by the BBC between 1958 and 1972.  Although the show ended in 1972 the BBC did resurrect the format in 1982 with a one off special “The Funny Side Of Christmas”

In 1994 Michael Parkinson hosted a one off Christmas Night With The Stars.

The show itself polled 24th in a Channel 4 program “100 Greatest Christmas Moments” sadly as with much of the BBC’s output of this era some of the sitcom and most of the variety segments no longer exist in the archives, due to being deleted.  Among the many BBC programs to feature were Dads Army, The Likely Lads and Steptoe and Son.

Summary

The show featured the top stars of the BBC as they appeared in short versions of their programmes, typically five to ten minutes long.
