The Upchat Connection

The Upchat Connection, 1978

Sounds more like a spy thriller than a sitcom, but this was an ITV sitcom.

Produced by Thames Television, it ran for six episodes (one series) in 1978.  It was created by Keith Waterhouse, whose credits included: That Was The Week That Was and Worzel Gummidge.

Summary

Mike Upchat emigrates to California.  However, before he goes he raffles all of his names and identities, locker 684 (Marylebone Station, Marylebone, London, NW1 PRQ…), and all of his personal effects, contacts, goodwill, persona – and a blind date.  All this for just £5 a ticket.

So how will the new Mike Upchat fare? will he have the natural skill and patter of the previous incumbent? Only time will tell…
