After Henry, 1988

Created by Simon Brett, After Henry starred two comedy heavy weights in Prunella Scales and Joan Sanderson.  BAFTA nominated it ran for four series of thirty eight episodes between 1988 and 1992.

After Henry originally started life as a BBC Radio series running between 1985 and 1989.

However, despite it’s success on radio the BBC were reluctant to produce After Henry for television, so in 1988, after the third radio serie,s Thames Television picked it up and produced the TV version.

The TV series was to prove a big success for ITV attracting regular audiences of over 14 million.

Summary

The series follows the comfortable middle-class lives of three women; except that, for one of them, life isn’t all that comfortable… Sarah has been left well provided for by her late husband who was a G.P.

However, money isn’t everything, unfortunately, Sarah has also been left with a demanding Mother and a prickly adolescent daughter who craves independence, just as long as mother is there to clear up the mess…
