This is the greatest comedian ever. No-one will be able to replace him. Our year group from school (Class of ’62 is compiling a list of Things To Do Before We Die0 – my unhesitating contribution is to say Go and See Ken Dodd Live! If you have any sadness or unhappiness beforehand, you will come out of the show transformed. Ken Dodd makes Everyone happy.

I was lucky enough to be part of the ITV team who produced An Audience with Ken Dodd. The show was recorded on Ken’s 67th birthday and he gave a tour de force performance that could not have been matched by anyone then or since! He was a joy to work with, a total one-off, astonishingly talented and wonderfully warm-hearted and kind with it. Ken Dodd was like a stick of Blackpool rock – he had ‘Funny’ written right through him, and loved making the cleaning lady he passed in the corridor laugh, as much as he did a packed house at the London Palladium. Just one correction – An Audience with Ken Dodd will be 24 years old in 2018, so your intro is incorrect in stating ‘the programme has been popping up on our screens for over 30 years’. However, I reckon it will be making people laugh for many decades to come – it shows the master of mirth at full power. By jove he must be tickling them up there in Heaven! A truly magical and utterly unique human being, I will forever treasure my memories of working with him on that classic TV show.

Oh Yes. Doddy and his Diddy Men. Ken came to the Empire Theatre in Liverpool and I just laughed the whole way through. It was the most hilarious one, two (or three) hours of my life. Doddy never minded the time it was and we could have stayed with him all night. I was so pleased he married his long life sweetheart before he dies.
There will never be another like him. Knotty Ash will never produce another like Ken Dodd.
