Dad’s Army set for comeback?

Is Dad’s Army Really Being Re-Made?

Fifty years on, Dad’s Army could be set for a spectacular comeback with a stellar cast including Sir David Jason as Captain Mainwaring, Hugh Laurie as Sergeant Arthur Wilson and Danny Dyer as Private Joe Walker.

The plans are to remake the lost 3 episodes, “They are the Loneliness of the Long Distance Walker”, “Stripe for Frazer” and “Under Fire” from 1969. Reportedly the episodes will be shot in front of a live studio audience and shown on Gold in 2019.

The team responsible for putting it all together reportedly have the blessing from the estate of Jimmy Perry and David Croft. Pete Thornton of Gold told the Daily Star newspaper “We’ve been working on this project for several years and will be respecting the genius of the original series. If ever there was a time to ‘stick to the script’ then this is it.”

The story continues that they are very keen to get Ian Lavender (now 72) who played Private Pike on board for the project.

Time will tell if this is a good idea but certainly the cast fits well. Remakes will always get compared to the original and comparing to the original Dad’s Army is a tough sell. Watch this space.
