By 1963 Des O’Connor was a successful singer, but his fame was about to rocket as he was given his own chat show.

Beginning in 1963, when ITV was in it’s infancy The Des O’ Connor Show ran for 8 series ending in 1971.

Originally the shows were made in black and white and ran to 30 minutes including ads, but by 1970 colour was the big name in TV.  So Des’ 7th series was aired in colour. with episodes now running to 60 minutes including ads.

Consequently the show’s popularity spread internationally and ITV licensed the show to NBC in America.  On both sides of the Atlantic it ran for one more series.
