Auf Wiedersehen, Pet – Series Four – 2004
There had been much excitement surrounding the return of eighties favourite Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and although the characters had aged, the revived series lost none of it’s humour. After the success of the revived series the BBC commissioned a fourth series that was broadcast in 2004.
Despite the success of the third series, series four didn’t live up to the standards set by the previous three series. The actors were getting on and it was clear that Pat Roach was not in good health.
When the BBC asked the cast where they wanted to go next Tim Healy reported in an interview for Radio Times that they asked for Cuba. Lengthy negotiations between the BBC and the Cuban government failed to secure permission for filming so the series was filmed in the Dominican Republic instead.
Despite loosing some of it’s form there would be one last swansong from the lads later that year that would be a return to form.
Summary
The lads now work as building subcontractors for the British Embassy, and are posted to Havana, where Neville is reluctantly recruited as a spy for the British, Oz falls in love with a local ballet dancer, and Barry finds himself in prison on the edge of a nervous breakdown.
