Derek Fowlds Dies, Aged 82

Actor Derek Fowlds has died at the age of 82.  He died this morning at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, having suffered with pneumonia.

Derek Fowlds will be best known for playing Private Secretary Bernard Woolley in Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister.

 

 

In more recent years viewers will remember him as police sergeant-turned-publican Oscar Blaketon in the long running ITV police drama: Heartbeat, a part he played for 18 years.

 

 

Fowlds also partnered Basil Brush on the popular children’s TV show in the 1970’s where he was “Mr Derek”.

 

 

“You couldn’t have met a nicer person ever” said his assistant Helen Bennett.
