melvyn hayes starred in the bc kids comedy series potter's picture house

Potter’s Picture Palace

Potter’s Picture Palace, 1976

Melvyn Hayes, of It Ain’t Half Hot Mum fame, turns his hand to children’s comedy.

Potter’s Picture Palace was a BBC kids comedy that ran for two series: one of seven episodes in 1976 and one of six episodes in 1978.

The cinema used for the series was the ‘Hale’ Cinema, near Altrincham in Cheshire.  Sadly, like many old cinemas it’s no longer in existence.

Look out for an appearance by John Comer who played Sid of Sid’s Cafe fame in Last Of The Summer Wine.

Summary

Peter Potter inherits a run down picture house from his Auntie and tries to restore it to its former glory.

However things are never straightforward and in season one his cousin Reggie does his best to try and stop him (if Potter closes the cinema for just one day ownership passes to Reggie who wants to knock it down and build flats).
