Chewing Gum was an E4 sitcom that ran for two series of six episodes each from 2015.  It was inspired by a play by the same writer entitled “Chewing Gum Dreams”.

The writer was Michaela Coel.  A Ghanaian British actress, screenwriter, singer, songwriter, poet and playright.  Her performance in Chewing Gum won her two BAFTA’s: Best Female Comedy Performance and Best Breakthrough Talent both in 2016.

It was August 2014 that Channel 4 announced that actress Michaela Coel was to star and write a new sitcom inspired by her play.  In September the same year the channel released teasors trailing the show.

It was September 2015 when Chewing Gum began it’s first series on digital channel E4 (owned by Channel 4 E4 is aimed at a younger viewer aged 16 -34).

Summary

The show features 24-year-old shop assistant Tracey Gordon, a restricted, religious virgin, who wants to have sex and learn more about the world.
