For many years Australian super star Barry Humphries had been appearing on UK TV screens with his larger than life Dame Edna character. In 1987 Dame Edna got her own ITV chat show.
Running for 12 instalments and 2 Christmas Specials. First series of 6 shows and a festive special was screened in 1987, a second run following the same 6 episodes and festive special was broadcast two years later in 1989.
Dame Edna is assisted by her bridesmaid Madge Allsop and announcer Robin Houston.
Summary
Dame Edna Everage interviews celebrity guests in her own unique way.
The format would usually comprise three guests but occasionally there could be up to eight. In addition to the scheduled guests there were other guests who once introduced stage right would fail to make it to their chair as they fell fowl of a trap door or other booby trap.
